Staging a home can make a big difference in the price one receives for it, sometimes as much as 10% more than expected. At the very first step, a well-staged home provides enough curb appeal that prospective buyers or renters are willing to look at it.

Staging includes:

  • decluttering and tidying up

  • clearing away family photos and memorabilia to create the look of a home that could belong to the prospective buyer

  • getting rid of damaged furniture and other items that do not enhance the appearance of the home

  • identifying and repairing flaws in the building, such as flaking paint or stained carpet or unpleasant odors

  • keeping the yard, driveway, and home exterior tidy and well-maintained

  • adding beautifying touches, such as a freshly painted front door in a welcoming color or pots of rosemary and geranium on the porch and in the kitchen
